Change blew into Eva's quiet life unexpectedly...
The warm, swirling winds stirred up Eva’s loneliness as she watched the old oaks bow and curtsy to one another in a rhythmic, swaying dance. A stand of pines creaked their objections to this disturbance of their peace. Eva stood braced in the doorway of her little farmhouse, breathing it all in and reveling in the energy of this strange, silver-gray day. Locks of hair whipped and twirled wildly about her face as a desperate, inexplicable anticipation gripped her chest. Invigorating gusts of air swooshed through the cotton fibers of her dress, toying with her bare thighs, sending cold goosebumps across her warm flesh.
All at once, she could feel the very vibrations of the earth; the whirring-buzzing-spinning force of life around her. Her fingers gripped the doorjamb tighter, knuckles whitened, nails dug into painted wood. Something big was coming. She was ready.
The sudden feeling of fullness was a welcome change from the vapid emptiness that had permeated this small town. Lately, Eva had been feeling soulless, even bloodless, as if the town itself was a parasite, sucking her dry.
